Tony Fawcett resigns as joint manager

Tony Fawcett has today resigned as Joint Manager of Whitley Bay Football Club. The Club would like to thank Tony for all his efforts since taking on this role 18 months ago and would like to wish him the very best of luck for the future.  Derek Forrest will continue as Manager of the Club.

Tony made the following  statement following his decision to stand down:

"It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to resign as joint manager of Whitley Bay FC. Having been a long term goal to manage this club, my local boyhood club, I feel it is in the best interests of everyone involved that I step down from my position.

"I have always been a manager and I have struggled to cope with the sharing of that role. That is not to say there are any issues between myself and Derek, who has only ever been supportive in the role and I would like to thank him publicly for working with me. I would also like to praise and thank the coaching team of Sean, Simon, Chris and Tony. I am sure Simon will go on to do fantastic things for the reserves at the football club.
"From starting the job, I have been well supported by the committee in a number of areas and this enabled the transition in to the club an extremely warm one.  Julian Tyley has been brilliant at getting our feelings out to the public and is a credit to the club he loves so much and Rob York has helped tremendously on a match day.
"Furthermore, I would like to thank ‘Baywatch’ for their live commentary feeds on our games, they have worked tirelessly in enabling our fans to have a chance to either see or hear what is happening at games that they cannot attend during a difficult 18 months as Covid limited attendances.
"I would like to finish by publicly thanking the fans. I have genuinely felt cared for at the club and always enjoyed the positive comments they give me on a regular basis.  Good people make a good club and from the tea hut, to the club shop, to Jason, to the scran van, to the bar staff, Whitley Bay FC is full of them."
