*Shildon away in League Cup tonight – match preview now online*

Whitley travel to Shildon tonight for a League Cup 3rd Round tie. It doesn’t come much tougher than a trip to the holders and league champions but Whitley have a good record at Dean Street and they earned a 2-2 draw there – also on a Wednesday evening – back in August to end the Railwaymen’s winning start to the league season.

Ten of the last 15 games between the sides at Shildon have ended all square and a similar outcome after 90 minutes would see the tie go straight to penalties, as extra time is no longer played in this competition.

Whitley have Liam Brooks and Matty McCarthy cup tied but the good news is that Andy Robertson could return to the squad following a six week absence through injury.

Shildon will be aiming to bounce back to form after going out of the FA Vase at home to Atherton Collieries then suffering a shock defeat at Chester-le-Street last week.

Last night’s games saw Newcastle Benfield, Stockton Town, Sunderland RCA and South Shields progress to the quarter finals.
