“The work rate was fantastic”

Whitley’s goal less draw at Whickham represented a huge improvement from the game against Northallerton a few days earlier, a response that assistant manager Liam McIvor was quick to highlight.

“I think that’s the most important thing, the reaction from Saturday’s game. It couldn’t have been any better, the work rate, it was fantastic, a brilliant attitude and it was a good result because they (Whickham) have picked up massively since they changed managers and they’re hard to beat here, they’re a big team physically. So yes it’s a good point. I thought we created the better chances, we’ve worked well down the wings, we just needed to get the ball in the box to give us chances to score a goal and that’s probably what we haven’t done tonight, just that little bit of quality is what was needed.”

He continued “The full backs make a big impact in this team and give a lot of assists and they create a lot, but we just never had that cutting edge today in front of goal.

“A draw was a fair result. You can’t complain with the work rate tonight. We’ve got three games left and we’ll keep going, we want to finish as high as we can.”

He concluded by thanking the excellent number of Bay fans who travelled to Whickham and swelled the crowd. “Credit to the Whitley fans for coming over tonight. They keep backing us and we’re grateful for that.”
