We would like to congratulate Whitley Bay FC supporter Anna Salkeld who ran the Great North Run today and in doing so has raised more than £1000 for our 'Light Up The Bay' new floodlights appeal, The support she has received since setting up a Just Giving page has been tremendous. She set herself a target of £1000 and she has now passed that figure, an incredible achievement!
In very hot conditions for much of the event Anna completed the gruelling 13.1 miles in 2hrs 35mins.
This is her story of the day:
“What a day… I have loved everything about it, well maybe not the downpour home via the very long queue at the ferry terminal 
. Met some fantastic people and such a great experience.. very emotional and makes me so proud to be from the North East!! It’s been an absolute pleasure raising money for Whitley Bay FC… it’s a fantastic club who have welcomed our son Harry into their family.. we will always be thankful for the opportunity Darren and the club gave Harry… Final note, thanks to every single person who donated, myself and the club really appreciate you supporting our local club!!
