We would like to thank two departing players Mechack Kanda and Mauro Asikaogu for their excellent service to the club. Meeshi hardly missed a game in his two seasons at Whitley Bay, making 92 appearances and scoring eight goals. He has been a stand out player in midfield and is now stepping up a Division to join Heaton Stannington.
Mauro arrived at Hillheads at the start of last season and has been an outstanding performer in goal, making numerous match winning saves, none more important than in the penalty shoot out victory over Heaton Stannington in the Northumberland Senior Cup Final, a tremendous way to bow out. He missed just one game all season, and quickly established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Northern League. Like Meeshi, he has accepted an offer to play at a higher level and has joined Blyth Spartans.
Bay manager Jay Bates commented "I've got to say a big thanks to Meeshi not just for the last couple of years at Whitley but for the last five overall in management. He's a proper good lad on and off the pitch, even," as he joked, "if we had to carry him a few times! All the best mate as you go and test yourself somewhere new."
"And a big shout to Mauro as well, top season in the Northern League and a quality goalkeeper to have around. Wishing you nothing but success on your footballing journey!"
Whitley Bay fans will have a chance to thank and say farewell to both players at the Club's Presentation Night and Race Night this coming Saturday at The Seahorse clubhouse, starting at 6.00pm Entry is £5 with pie and peas included.
