Unsurprisingly, Whitley's midweek game against Marske United has been postponed as the pitch is unplayable.
This was always the likely outcome after the game was rearranged at short notice last week despite last Tuesday's Northumberland Senior Cup being called off with the pitch unfit after the bad winter weather.
Saturday's game was able to go ahead, but as has been the case at a number of other clubs, playing two games in four days on a heavy pitch has proved impossible. Wet weather on Sunday left groundstaff little if any opportunity to prepare the pitch and any attempt to do so would have risked long term damage to the playing surface.
The way the fixtures have worked out, Whitley now face a run of six consecutive away games, far from ideal from a club or fans perspective but it does at least give a chance for the pitch to recover. It is to be hoped that the Marske game is rearranged for a date later in the season. Currently there are no midweek fixtures scheduled for March or April when playing conditions should be more favourable.
Whitley's next scheduled game is on Saturday when they travel to Crook Town.
