We were saddened to learn that former Whitley Bay FC physio Joe Jabs passed away on Sunday.
Joe served the club for many years through the 1980's and 90's including during Whitley's greatest ever FA Cup run when they reached the 3rd Round of the competition in 1989/90 and achieved national recognition and an appearance as the feature game on BBC Match of the Day when they defeated Preston North End 2-0 in the 2nd Round at Hillheads in December 1989.
A popular and loyal servant to Whitley Bay FC over many years, Joe is fondly remembered by fans and players alike.
Andy Gowens joined the club as a player in 1985/86 when Joe was already in post and he was still there in 2000 when Gowens returned as manager. "He was such a character" said Andy. "Yet another of the great characters gone." Paul Dixon, who was assistant manager during part of Joe's time at the club, was also saddened by the news and remembers him as 'a real character'.
Everyone at Whitley Bay Football Club would like to pass on their condolences to Joe's family and friends.
Joe's funeral will take place at Tynemouth Crematorium on Wednesday 23rd July at 10.30am.
